    The Core Farming Mindset

Before diving into specific army compositions or trophy ranges, adopt the correct mindset:

Activity is Paramount: Farming rewards consistent effort. Frequent, short raiding sessions are vastly more effective than infrequent, long ones. Aim for multiple raids per session, focusing on quick wins.

Prioritize Profit, Not Trophies: Your primary goal is to maximize resource gain, not climb the trophy ladder. Losing trophies to find easier, resource-rich bases is often beneficial. Conversely, pushing trophies usually means more formidable defenses and less loot available.

Resource Velocity Over Hoarding: While protecting your loot is important (covered later), the rate at which you acquire resources is more critical than sitting on a huge pile. Focus on generating income faster than you spend it on upgrades.

Target Selection is Key: Not every base is worth attacking. Learn to scan a base during the 30-second preview quickly:

    • Complete Collectors/Mines: Exposed or lightly protected resource collectors and mines are the juiciest targets. Look for the dark black level inside – complete collectors are black, while empty ones are grey or transparent.
    • Accessible Storages: If collectors are depleted, assess if storages are reachable with your army without facing the full might of their defenses.
    • Loot Available: The displayed numbers matter. Don’t waste an army on a base showing minimal Gold/Elixir. Set personal minimum thresholds.
    • Town Hall Placement: An exposed Town Hall is a free trophy and shields your resources (more on this later).

    Optimize Your Trophy Range

The trophy range you sit in drastically influences the types of bases you encounter and the loot available. The “sweet spot” varies slightly based on your Town Hall (TH) level, but general principles apply:

Lower Leagues (Crystal III – Gold I): Often considered the prime farming grounds for TH9-TH12. You’ll find:

    • Many inactive or semi-active bases with complete collectors and mines.
    • Weaker overall defenses compared to higher leagues.
    • Less intense competition from other farmers.
    • Easier to maintain a lower trophy count for frequent, high-loot attacks.

Mid Leagues (Master III – Crystal I): Suitable for TH11-TH13, especially if pushing slightly higher for bonus loot. Offers:

    • A mix of active and inactive bases.
    • Higher League Bonus rewards per star.
    • Slightly more formidable defenses but potentially larger resource stockpiles.

Higher Leagues: Primarily for TH14-TH16, focused on Dark Elixir or competitive play. While League Bonuses are significant, bases are much tougher, requiring mighty armies and longer training times, reducing overall farming efficiency for pure Gold/Elixir.

If you’re struggling to find good loot, intentionally lose a few attacks (drop trophies) by sniping the Town Hall with a single troop or surrendering immediately. Aim for the leagues where you consistently find bases with 400k+ Gold/Elixir that you can reliably defeat with minimal losses.

    Dominant Farming Army Compositions

The best farming armies train quickly, cost little Elixir (or even turn a profit), and can reliably core dive for storages or clear collectors. Here are the top contenders:

    BARCH (Barbarians + Archers):

    • Composition: Primarily Barbarians and Archers (e.g., 50% Barbs, 50% Archers). Add a few Wall Breakers if needed.
    • Strategy: Target bases with complete, exposed collectors and mines. Deploy Barbs as meat shields, followed by Archers to pick off collectors behind. Spread troops around the perimeter. Avoid core dives.
    • Pros: Extremely cheap, trains are swift (under 15 mins with max Barracks), minimal spell reliance.
    • Cons: Struggles against bases with centralized collectors or strong walls/core defenses. Low trophy gain (often loss).
    • Ideal For: Lower leagues, pure collector farming. The ultimate resource-positive army.

    Baby Dragons:

    • Composition: 20-30 Baby Dragons. Rage Spells are optional.
    • Strategy: Leverage their immunity to Seeking Air Mines. Target collector rings or compartments. Use their splash damage to clear clusters of buildings. Funnel them towards resource-rich areas.
    • Pros: Very sturdy, ignores Seeking Air Mines, good splash damage, decent training time. Can often achieve 50% destruction for the win bonus.
    • Cons: More expensive than BARCH, slower training than pure ground spam.
    • Ideal For: TH9+, especially effective when collectors are spread out. Good for maintaining trophies while farming.

    Sneaky Goblins (The Raid Specialist):

    • Composition: Primarily Sneaky Goblins (90+). Bring Jump Spells, Rage Spells, Haste Spells, and a Wall Wrecker/Log Launcher. 1-2 Super Wall Breakers can help.
    • Strategy: Use the 5-second invisibility to bypass defenses and target specifically resource collectors and storage. Use Jump/Rage/Haste to access deep storage areas. Ignore defenses unless blocking the path. Get in, grab loot, get out. Often, aim for just the Town Hall (for trophies and guards) and resources.
    • Pros: Unmatched ability to snipe high-value loot from even well-protected storage. Can generate massive hauls quickly. Highly focused.
    • Cons: Requires precise deployment. Very weak defensively; a single Giant Bomb can wipe a wave. Needs Dark Elixir for training. Training time is moderate.
    • Ideal For: Mid-TH levels and up (TH10+), especially when core storages are the primary target. Requires some practice but yields the highest potential loot per raid.

    Mass Miners (TH11+):

    • Composition: 40+ Miners. Heal Spells are essential. Warden’s ability is crucial.
    • Strategy: Miners travel underground, ignoring walls and targeting defenses. Deploy in waves. Use Heal Spells to keep them alive through splash damage (like Multi-Target Infernos or Giant Bombs). Excellent for core diving storage.
    • Pros: Ignores walls, high DPS, great for core dives on storage-heavy bases. Reliable 1-3 stars.
    • Cons: Vulnerable to splash damage without Heals. Expensive in Elixir. Training time longer than BARCH/Baby Drags.
    • Ideal For: TH11+, where core storages are the primary target and walls are strong.

    Protecting Your Hard-Earned Loot

While attacking is key, minimizing losses is vital for net profit:

    Master the Shield System:

    1. Guard: A short (15-30 min) shield after online play or a defense. Your resources are protected.
    2. Shield: Longer protection (12-16 hours) triggered by significant damage to your Village. Your resources are protected.
    3. Personal Break: Forces you offline after 3+ hours of continuous online play, granting a short Village Guard. Crucially, your resources become vulnerable during this break if you don’t have a Shield/Guard!

Encourage Shields: Place your Town Hall outside your walls. Many attackers will simply snipe it for trophies and give you a free 12-hour shield, protecting your resources. This is the single most effective defense tactic for farmers.

Protect Storages: If you have significant loot, centralize your Gold and Elixir Storages within your base, surrounded by defenses, walls, and traps. Spread out collectors/mines (they fill slowly and are less critical to protect centrally).

Upgrade Key Defenses: While farming focuses on offense, neglecting defense entirely leaves you vulnerable. Prioritize splash damage defenses (Wizard Towers, Mortars, Bomb Towers, Multi-Target Infernos) and point defenses like Cannons and Archer Towers. Air Defenses and Air Sweepers are critical against air raids. Walls significantly slow down ground troops.

    Strategic Progression

    • Upgrade Offense First: Prioritize upgrading your Army Camps, Barracks, Dark Barracks, Spell Factory, and Laboratory over defenses, especially at new TH levels. A more potent offense means faster, more profitable raids.
    • Laboratory Efficiency: Continuously research troops and spells used in your primary farming army. A max-level BARCH or Sneaky Goblin is significantly more effective than a lower-level one.

    Conclusion

Mastering Gold and Elixir farming in Clash of Clans is the cornerstone of sustained progression. By embracing an active raiding schedule, strategically managing your trophy range, deploying cost-effective and fast-training armies like BARCH, Baby Dragons, Sneaky Goblins, or Miners, and intelligently protecting your gains through shield management and base design, you transform resource scarcity into abundance.
